Council votes 6–0 to enter closed session on personnel, prospective business and investment matter

At the Nov. 12 work session, a council member moved "pursuant to section 2.23711 a of code of Virginia 1950 as amended subsection 1 5 and 6" that the council hold a closed meeting to consider three items: interviews of prospective candidates for city clerk, discussion of a prospective business in the South District, and consideration of a potential investment of public funds to support a public festival. The motion was seconded, the mayor called the roll, and the motion carried 6–0.
Roll call was recorded with Mayor Jones, Councilman Long, Councilwoman Vick, Vice Mayor Bethany, Councilman Veil and Councilman Harris voting in favor. Staff noted the closed meeting would be lawfully exempted from open‑meeting requirements under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act for the purposes stated in the motion.
