Commissioners back Yellow House recovery‑support facility, county to partner on access and programming

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved an item supporting Yellow House, a community recovery support organization, during its Jan. 28 meeting.

County staff and program representatives described Yellow House as a volunteer‑run hub that provides day‑to‑day meeting space and peer support for people in recovery. Hal Cromwell and Amy McCarthy, two board representatives, told the court the organization hosts 7‑day‑a‑week meetings for multiple mutual‑aid groups and estimated increasing use of the new facility.

Cromwell said Yellow House offers a “ready‑made community when folks are ready” and that the new building will fill quickly. McCarthy said the organization is averaging “about 33 to 100 people a month” through its doors and that the center provides no‑cost meeting space for Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and other recovery groups.

Commissioners noted Yellow House’s partnership with county and nonprofit service providers, including a planned collaboration with Bluebonnet to provide transport under a grant mentioned in the meeting. The court approved the item by motion and second; the motion was recorded on the transcript as passing 3–0.

Speakers invited commissioners to the Yellow House ribbon cutting and described the facility’s location as near Leander, opposite the police station. County staff said the project aligns with opioid‑treatment and recovery initiatives previously funded by the court.
