Council accepts donated parcel for Charles Gate Road extension, appoints Ruben Knight and swears in police communications officer

Huber Heights — At its Dec. 8 meeting the City Council authorized a donation agreement to accept approximately 0.634 acres from Nomad Ventures LLC to facilitate the Charles Gate Road extension and authorized solicitation of contracts to complete the donor’s consideration.
Staff reported the project is already in the engineering phase and will include sidewalks, and multiple council members thanked staff and the landowner for reaching an agreement. "They're already the work's already actually in the engineering phase, so we're already designing the work," John said when asked if the legislation would allow work to begin. Council adopted the resolution 9–0.
Earlier in new business the council appointed Ruben Knight to the Culture and Diversity Citizen Action Commission (term ending Dec. 31, 2028). The appointment motion carried 9–0.
During the city manager's report the mayor and staff also swore in a newly hired police communications officer, Paige Gerhardt; staff noted Gerhardt had prior experience with the Ohio State Patrol and served as a four‑year public‑safety cadet.
Council members framed the donation and road connection as long‑sought neighborhood connectivity improvements that will make local streets safer and more walkable. The resolution authorizes staff to solicit the necessary contracts to complete the project.
All three actions were adopted unanimously.
