Planning commission reopens and continues Redmond code amendment hearing to Dec. 10

A commissioner moved that staff use the continuance period to meet with stakeholders and address written testimony submitted for the hearing; the motion was seconded and the commission reopened the hearing before voting to continue it to Dec. 10, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. The presenter reminded the commission that the city council will review the Planning Commission’s recommendation as part of a separate council hearing on Dec. 9.
The continuance leaves a clear set of next steps: staff is to hold outreach meetings with developers and stakeholder groups, perform targeted analysis (for example, test-plat scenarios to measure unit loss from setbacks), and report back to the commission before the continued hearing. The commission emphasized balancing housing supply, water-conservation goals and livability concerns in any final recommendation.
The motion carried by voice vote with the commissioners present voting 'aye.' The record is left open for additional written testimony and the commission indicated staff should return with quantified examples and options prior to the Dec. 10 session.
