Alan asked Fire Department leadership to brief council on a new community health bus operating outside City Hall as part of the city's community paramedicine initiative.
Chief Rogers (Wesley) said the city applied for and received federal funding for a mobile integrated health unit to deliver vaccinations, free health screenings (including A1C testing), mental‑health resources and partnerships with hospital systems and the Department of Human Services. "If you need your flu shot, please run down and get your flu shot," he said, describing the bus as a way to reach populations that face access barriers, including unhoused residents.
Council members who toured the bus praised the service as "state of the art" and noted high turnout from residents seeking services. Staff said the bus will be deployed to sites across the city in coordination with partner organizations and public‑health stakeholders to broaden access to care.
