The New Kent County Board of Supervisors reorganized its leadership for 2026 at the Jan. 13 meeting, electing a chair, vice chair and clerks and completing a slate of district and regional appointments.
Rodney Hathaway, the county administrator, opened nominations for board chair. A motion to nominate Ron Stiers was seconded and the board polled members; Stiers was elected chair for a one‑year term. Stiers thanked the board and said he would do his best to follow the example of outgoing 2025 Chair Thomas Evelyn.
The board then nominated and elected John Moyer as vice chair for a one‑year term; the clerk recorded one abstention and the motion carried. The board also elected Rodney Hathaway as clerk and Wanda Watkins as deputy clerk. The board adopted the 2026 meeting schedule with revisions to March, June, August and November meeting dates and approved bylaws and the consent agenda as presented.
Later in the meeting the board moved through a series of appointments to district and at‑large bodies, including zoning, historic commission, transportation and youth committee seats, and named representatives to regional organizations. The board authorized the chairman to sign a letter of support for a Go Virginia workforce training grant and recorded the appointments by roll call.
The meeting concluded after completing appointments and routine announcements; the board adjourned following the votes.
