Hampstead recognizes longtime town attorney and announces scholarships, markets and summer events

At its Jan. 13 meeting, the Hampstead Town Council presented a proclamation honoring Michelle Ostrander for 30 years as town attorney and proclaimed Jan. 13, 2026, as 'Michelle Ostrander Day.' Mayor Christopher Nevin read the proclamation and presented a ceremonial key to Ostrander.
The council and staff also shared several community announcements: the town will offer four $1,000 scholarships to high school students who reside within town limits and have been accepted to college or technical school; the application is available at the town website (hamsteadmd.gov) and is due Friday, April 24, 2026, at 4 p.m. Applicants may mail, drop off at town hall, or email submissions to judyrang@jrangathamsteadmd.gov.
Event programming updates included the Historic Society of Carroll County’s Carroll 250 traveling tavern exhibit, which advisory member Judy Rang reserved for Hampstead Day; the Hampstead Farmers Market will open its 2026 season on June 6 (first Saturday in June) and is seeking $250 business sponsors who will receive web and Facebook promotion; Music in the Park has four bands booked with additional offers pending; and the Hampstead Train Station remains closed for winter.
