Mayor Christopher Nevin asked for a motion to go into closed session under Article 3‑305(b)(1) and to invite the town attorney Tom McCarron, town manager Jim Mark, the police chief and the head of human resources. A motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Why it matters: Maryland law permits municipal bodies to meet in closed session to discuss personnel matters involving identifiable individuals; the council’s vote begins that process and limits public access for that portion of the meeting.
What’s next: the council moved to closed session; the public portion of the meeting adjourned and council indicated it will reconvene in February.
