Planning Commission appoints temporary chair amid scheduling concerns

The City of Grand Junction Planning Commission on Oct. 14 appointed Commissioner Sandra as its temporary chair after a split among members about whether to wait for new commissioners.
Commissioners discussed postponing the election because many seats will turn over in November and December, but staff warned that the chair also serves on the Zoning Board of Appeals and that appeals can require quick action. After nominations and debate, the commission took a formal vote and the motion to appoint Sandra carried on a reported 4-2 tally.
The commission confirmed the existing vice chair will remain in place. The appointment is temporary; the commission will resume its usual officer-selection process next May during its annual cycle.
