Patrick Henry’s Red Hill seeks county support as visitation and programs expand

Representatives of Patrick Henry’s Red Hill updated the board about visitor programs, education outreach and the site's needs as visitation is expected to rise as part of national 250th anniversary activities. Dexter Gilliam, chair of the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation, introduced CEO Hope Marston, who highlighted Red Hill’s programming, school visits and upcoming events.
Marston said the site hosts annual events (including a July 4 celebration that draws about 2,500 visitors) and that over the year Red Hill draws roughly 10,000 visitors from dozens of states. She described extensive school outreach (29 school visits this year) and free-admission programs for veterans and EBT-card holders. “Red Hill receives $0 from the federal government or the state government,” Gilliam said, pressing the point that the site relies on grants and private fundraising.
The foundation asked the board to consider any available county assistance for next year, noting that the site has conservation easements on portions of its acreage and has received recent awards and recognition. Staff followed up that administration will review possible contributions and follow up with the foundation.
