The Texarkana Planning and Zoning Commission voted May 13 to adopt a housekeeping amendment that reconciles contradictory setback language for accessory buildings.
Jamie, staff, told commissioners the amendment corrects an inconsistency: paragraph A of the code said 15 feet while paragraph G was intended to read 10 feet. "So this is one of those things where in paragraph A it originally said 15 feet, and then in paragraph G, it says 10 feet. So it's supposed to be 10 feet," Jamie said.
A motion to adopt the revision passed on a roll-call vote with Anita Pickett, Jason Dupree, Anderson Knapp, Chris Owens, Corey Moffs and Chairman Thomas voting yes; Randall Hickerson was absent. The commission recorded that the item will be sent to the city board of directors for codification.
The amendment was framed as a minor, corrective change to make the ordinance internally consistent rather than to change the substance of the setback rule. Jamie confirmed that the intent is to preserve a 10-foot minimum distance for detached accessory buildings located at the rear portion of a lot.
The commission did not tie the amendment to other zoning changes at the meeting and took no additional amendments to the measure.
