Ada County OKs opioid-settlement spending for coroner testing and juvenile services

Ada County commissioners approved Resolution 31-64 on Jan. 20 to authorize spending opioid-settlement funds for specified county needs, including toxicology testing in the coroner's office and testing and educational equipment in juvenile services.
County staff told the board the allocation comes from settlement funds the county received and that the proposed uses fall within the settlement's allowable categories. Staff said the selection reflects a multi-step review process in which operations and program staff submitted requests and a review group evaluated and prioritized proposals to bring forward for board finalization.
Commissioners emphasized transparency in the process and acknowledged that the settlement funds were not part of the adopted budget but are additional funds the county can direct to eligible public-health and service needs. The resolution passed by unanimous voice vote.
