Fire Marshal Andy told the court that historically the county had not charged fees for plan reviews or inspections for items such as fire alarms, sprinklers, daycare and foster-home inspections; the proposed schedule aligns Liberty County with neighboring jurisdictions and is intended to recover staff time and record-retention costs. Andy said some projects have required multiple site visits to reach final approval; the schedule includes modest fees for re-inspections.
Commissioners asked how the permit office would collect and process the fees and whether the additional administrative burden would require more personnel. County staff said the permit system supports online fee collection and that most applicants already interact with the permits office; the court approved the schedule and directed staff to return with an implementation plan and estimated impacts on the permits office before fees go live.
The court's motion approved the fee schedule and instructed the fire marshal and permits staff to prepare an implementation plan; commissioners said they expected a report before the next meeting so the budget effects can be considered.
