Southern Pines, N.C. — During public comment on Dec. 9, residents asked the council for help on a range of neighborhood and civic matters.
Fred Levine introduced his service‑disabled veteran‑owned medical billing business and asked to network with local practices. Dorothy Brower urged the town to boost voter turnout for municipal elections and to engage youth in the civic process. Ryan Paschal described a nearby "paper street" obstructed by parked junk vehicles and a privacy fence that he said prevents the likely path for a town water extension; Paschal requested town assistance to clear the paper street and asked council to consider paying to install a water line that he said could pay for itself through future tax revenue.
Paschal also raised safety concerns, noting a posted 55 mph speed limit on May Street that he said is too high for the area and asked the town to pursue a speed reduction or a four‑way stop. Council thanked speakers and said staff would follow up as appropriate.
