Inkster council approves fire code, sewer pump contracts, one-year moratorium and master plan

Inkster’s City Council on March 3 approved a package of routine infrastructure and planning measures that city officials said are meant to strengthen public safety, maintain sewer infrastructure and guide development through 2025.
The council adopted city ordinance 92.01 to adopt the state fire prevention code by reference, a measure the council moved and approved by voice vote. Councilmembers also authorized the administration to enter service agreements with Curb Pump & Supply for preventive maintenance and emergency repairs at the city’s five combined sewer pump stations and approved the purchase of backup pumps for emergency operations.
Council approved a resolution to certify an existing industrial drive east of Henry Ruff in accordance with Act 51. The body also enacted a one-year moratorium on the approval and permitting of new gas stations, liquor stores and major automotive repair businesses (including collision, transmission and undercoating shops) inside city limits; council members confirmed the moratorium length during discussion and passed the resolution by voice vote.
Separately, the council approved buying a vacant parcel listed as case LD25-02 (near Notre Dame) and moved to table a special land use application (25-02) seeking permission for liquor, beer and wine sales at 1173–1183 Henry Ruff to the next meeting. The council also voted to adopt the Inkster 2025 master plan.

What happens next: staff will implement the service agreements and commence procurement for backup pumps, and zoning staff will prepare next steps related to the moratorium and the tabled special land use application.
