House adopts resolution recognizing nursing profession and nurses' rights

The Delaware House on Jan. 23 adopted House Concurrent Resolution 84 recognizing the importance of the nursing profession and supporting nurses' rights in the state.
Representative Jones Giltner introduced the measure and noted the role of more than 29,000 registered nurses in Delaware and the broader national workforce. "We will respect the rigor of the nursing practice in the state of Delaware as both an art and science, and the rights of the nurses are non negotiable," Jones Giltner said on the floor while citing provisions of the National Nurses Bill of Rights.
During the presentation the chamber stood to recognize members of the Delaware Association of Nurse Anesthetists in the gallery. The resolution was adopted by a voice vote; the presiding officer declared "the ayes have it." The measure is ceremonial and expresses the House's support for nurses' professional standards, workplace safety, training and compensation.
