Board issues proclamations for Social Work Month, Red Cross Month and Women’s History Month; honors long-serving staff
Supervisors used the March 11 meeting to proclaim National Social Work Month, American Red Cross Month and Women’s History Month, to recognize longtime county employee Maureen Toms on her retirement and to honor Anthony Gomez for 30 years of service.

The board opened its March 11 session with a series of proclamations and recognitions. Marla Stewart, director of the Employment and Human Services Department, led a presentation to recognize March 2025 as National Social Work Month and cited county workforce numbers and key service statistics: EHSD reported 314 social workers providing child-protective and adult protective services; the county’s three departments collectively reported about 1,011 social workers in 2024. Deputy Director Lavonna Martin highlighted roughly 680 social workers in the public-health system.
