Resident urges city action after prolonged yard code complaint

Charles Schmidt of 89 West 1550 North used the public-comment period at the Dec. 16 Sunset City Council meeting to press the city on an ongoing neighborhood nuisance.
"We still have a mess in that front yard," Schmidt said, asking what progress had been made after prior contacts with the police chief and code enforcement. His wife, Michelle, also raised related concerns about fire-hydrant markings and streetlights.
The mayor responded that multiple citations have been issued and that the matter is now proceeding through the court process. The mayor said staff and police have visited the property several times and that the city would keep the complainants informed about court access and next steps: "...multiple citations have been issued, and so now they're just simply waiting for their appears to be done in court," he said.
City staff clarified that streetlights mentioned by residents are maintained by Rocky Mountain Power and advised residents to submit outage tickets through the utility so the status of repairs can be tracked.
The council thanked the residents for bringing the issue to the meeting. No further formal action (such as a new enforcement ordinance or immediate abatement directive) was taken at the meeting; staff reported existing code-enforcement and citation processes are in progress.
