Council hears update on state wildland-urban-interface mapping process

City staff told the Midway City Council that the state is developing a wildland-urban-interface (WUI) map that will assign risk designations and create a fund supported by assessments. Staff said municipalities were asked to adopt a resolution after the state publishes the map; Midway does not yet have the map and will place any requested resolution on a future council agenda once the state releases it.
A staff member summarized the effect: "based on where you live in the red, yellow, blue, purple areas you have to pay into a pot" that helps pay for wildfire responses. Council members noted they will review the map to understand which properties are affected and how assessments would apply. No action was required at the meeting; the briefing was informational.
