Nye County asks NDOT for focused safety evaluation at SR‑160/Mountain Falls intersection

Because the county does not want to wait, staff proposed a short letter asking NDOT to "consider performing a traffic and safety evaluation for this intersection" and to work collaboratively with Nye County to identify practical solutions.
Public commenters and commissioners urged the request be expedited because local traffic volumes, truck movements and planned residential development will increase demand on the intersection. Commissioners amended and approved the NDOT letter with wording suggested by NDOT staff and asked Public Works to transmit it.
NDOT indicated the study was not currently in budget and any near‑term work would be subject to its scheduling and funding constraints; however, the agency said a targeted evaluation could be more feasible than a multi‑year corridor study if requested and prioritized.
