Board updates superintendent search; court case continued and holiday programs planned

The chair reported that the superintendent search consultant has closed or is about to close applications and will provide applicant packets to the committee on Monday. The committee intends to review materials, narrow the pool to three or four candidates, and present finalists to the jail board in January. The chair said the board may schedule a special meeting in January for candidate review and interviews.

Separately, a board member reported a court case was continued over the Commonwealth's objection; the defendant had two defense attorneys and the judge granted a continuance, with the case likely reset for Dec. 2 or Dec. 6. The board noted a related lawsuit and said a staff member (Ms. Pandek) would provide more details upon return from vacation.

Kevin West described typical inmate holiday programming: coordination with a chaplain and community partners (example: a partnership with Hochul Parks) to assemble gift bags for children, distribution windows in the lobby to accommodate working family members, special holiday meals, and sending cards to family members. West said staff seek to ensure reentry-program participants can help and family members can receive items.
