Holly Springs Tree Commission approves city plantings, schedules dedication at JB Owens Park

Mister Logan told the commission the plan calls for 45 emerald green arborvitae at the Public Works facility on Univertae Road and 12 emerald green arborvitae for a new storm detention pond at Karen Johnson Barnett Park. "The total cost that we got from Bug Jones Nursery for all of the supplies is $3,003.25," Speaker 2 said, and staff will rent an auger and plant the trees. The commission approved moving forward with the purchase and planting during the meeting.
Commissioners also scheduled a short dedication and photo opportunity for the already-planted JB Owens Park tree for Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 2:30 p.m.; Sabrina was asked to notify participants. Members discussed watering and species details (the tree was described as a cedar, referred to in the discussion as an "Atlas" or "blue seed" variety) and confirmed family and staff responsibility for maintenance.
The commission voted to approve a memorial tree for the late Captain Helio Garcia, who was identified in the meeting as having died in a car crash in South Fulton.
