Commission approves Walk for Warmth permit after Macomb Community Action presentation

The Mount Clemens City Commission on Jan. 20 approved a special event permit for Macomb Community Action's annual Walk for Warmth fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Edward Scott, introduced as director of Macomb Community Action, presented the event to the commission and described the walk's mission—to raise funds for heating emergencies and assist households that fall just outside program eligibility. Scott said registration is available at runsignup.com/w4w2026walkforwarmth2026 (a $30 participation fee) and that donations can also be accepted by phone at (586) 469-6999 or by check or cash the day of the event. He estimated 150–200 walkers and said the gathering point will be the Macomb County Administration Building with a downtown loop route and no planned street closures.

City staff told the commission the walk would proceed without street closures on a 1.5- or 3-mile loop and that a hold-harmless agreement will be required as a condition of approval. The motion to approve the special event permit was moved, supported and passed by roll call.

What happens next: organizers will finalize logistics, coordinate with downtown businesses (some have agreed to post registration QR codes or offer discounts), and comply with the city's hold-harmless requirement.
