GoEO announces REDI grant application window Feb. 1–15 for job-creating businesses

Deborah McKee, representing the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GoEO), told the board on Jan. 28 that the Rural Employment Development Incentive (REDI) grant will open Feb. 1 and remain open through Feb. 15.
McKee said eligible applicants are businesses that do not charge sales tax and are not in construction, and that they must plan to add brand-new full-time, year-round positions that pay 100% of the county average wage. The grant provides $6,000 per eligible new employee; nonprofits may also apply. Applicants must apply before hiring and will have six months after award to complete required hires.
McKee said she will provide an information sheet and assist potential applicants through the process. Board members asked why retail businesses that charge sales tax are excluded; McKee explained that the legislative intent targeted specific business types for the REDI program and retail is explicitly excluded.
