Twin Rivers honored for energy savings as 24 schools earn Energy Star certification

Twin Rivers Unified officials and their vendor partners presented Energy Star results showing 24 district schools met the program’s energy-efficiency threshold for calendar year 2023.

Mark Storaci, the district’s executive director of general services, explained that Energy Star certification requires a score of 75 or higher on a 100-point scale and credited a mix of facility upgrades, HVAC replacements and sustained behavior changes by school staff, custodians and students. Storaci said the district’s net cost avoidance exceeded $1,000,000 and gross savings were “almost $2,400,000” based on the district’s usage and baseline comparisons.

Representatives from Synergistix — including Joe Coburn and Piper Rizzo — thanked district staff and highlighted sites with notable electricity and gas reductions. The partnership was described as ongoing; the vendors said they will continue to support on-site energy specialists and behavioral programs that lower consumption.

What’s next: District staff said they will continue collaboration with Synergistix and distribute individual Energy Star certificates to the 24 schools.
