Kossuth County board appoints John Hink to veterans commission

The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors voted to appoint John Hink as a member of the county veterans commission, filling a seat left vacant by the recent resignation of Commissioner Bernhardt of Bancroft.

Dan, who presented the vacancy and the candidate, said Hink is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who has previously served the community and county in several volunteer roles, including occasional transport assistance for veterans. "John has served in the community and the county previously," Dan said while nominating him.

Board members said they had already interviewed Hink at the previous meeting and supported his selection. The board approved a motion by Sticker with a second by Wachter; a voice vote was taken and the chair said the motion carried. After the vote Dan said he would work with human resources to complete acceptance paperwork and prepare an oath for Hink, with an anticipated swearing-in during a brief appearance at a board meeting later in February.

The appointment preserves the veterans commission's intent to represent a range of service eras: Dan told the board that if Hink is seated the commission would include representation from Marine Corps, Air Force and several Army components. No formal objections were recorded during the public meeting and the board did not set additional conditions for the appointment.

The immediate next steps noted in the meeting were administrative: HR coordination for onboarding and placing Hink on the roster beginning in January if all paperwork is completed.

The board did not disclose a recorded roll-call tally for the voice vote on the appointment; minutes show the motion was carried by voice vote. The commission will assume its usual advisory duties under county rules once Hink is sworn in.
