Frank Davis of Walden and Jenkins told Sumter County Council the county's financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, received an unmodified (clean) audit opinion and the auditors found no reportable instances of noncompliance or internal control deficiencies. Davis also reported a clean opinion on the county's compliance with federal guidelines for coronavirus state and local fiscal recovery funds and the HOME program.
"We've issued ultimately an unmodified opinion on the county's financial statements, which is a clean opinion," Davis said, and offered to answer council questions.
County administrator Joe (speaker 12) presented the Progress 2025 compendium, a 60-page PDF the county will post on its website after the meeting. The report covers the fiscal year 07/01/2024 to 06/30/2025 and summarizes capital projects (including items funded by the third capital projects sales tax referendum approved by voters in November 2024), ARPA-funded convenience-center paving, museum exhibits, community events, and contact information for county departments.
Joe said he and staff will maintain a project page for each capital project so residents can track progress. The presentation included highlights such as the Sumter County Gallery of Art receiving a governor's award and the county's first Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day.
Council members thanked the auditor and commended staff for producing the compendium. No formal action was required beyond accepting the reports for the record.
