Brandy Sargent told Mayor Laurie Jadwine on the city podcast that Sargent Coffee will open at 140 North High Street in Gahanna’s Creekside District, include a reservable community room called The Well (capacity 73), and aims to open by November while continuing its mobile trailer service.
Brandy Sargent, co-owner of Sargent Coffee, told Mayor Laurie Jadwine on the City of Gahanna’s podcast that the business will open a brick-and-mortar location at 140 North High Street in the city’s Creekside District and keep operating its mobile coffee trailer during the build-out. "There will be coffee, of course, and a community space," Sargent said, describing a "third place" for residents to gather.
Sargent said she and her husband, Ryan, who served as an Army sergeant and operates a counseling practice called Guiding Purpose Counseling, started by serving coffee from a mobile trailer and decided to open a permanent shop after receiving early local support. She said their beans come from a local roaster now operating as Highlands Coffee Roasters.
The new storefront will include a larger reservable room operated in partnership with 3 Creeks Church and referred to as The Well; Sargent said reservations and rentals will be handled through The Well and that the back room’s capacity is 73. She called the space a "third place" where people can work, plug in laptops and reserve the larger room for events.
On timing, Sargent said progress has been slower than hoped because of contractor and construction issues but that the project is moving forward. "We were saying July... I'm going to say by the November," she said, indicating a fall–holiday opening window. She said the mobile trailer will continue to serve events and regular locations while the storefront is completed.
Sargent described Creekside development as "exciting," saying additional visitors and businesses could help the area but acknowledged short-term disruptions from construction. On parking, she said she has heard concerns but does not see parking as the major problem some expect, adding she believes there is room to accommodate customers.
Mayor Jadwine noted Sargent Coffee’s frequent presence at city events and suggested the coffee team might operate seasonally at the new Civic Center. The podcast episode ended with thanks to Sargent and a reminder that the city will continue highlighting local people and projects.
No formal city approvals, ordinances, votes or contract awards were discussed on the episode.
