Terre Haute — The City Council approved an amended special ordinance to rezone two adjacent parcels at 2340 and 2350 North 24th Street after staff said earlier paperwork had misclassified part of the site.
Attorney Richard Shagley told the council the building parcel had been split into M‑1 and R‑1 zoning in earlier records and that the amended ordinance corrects the classification. He said the prospective buyer is a subcontractor involved in fiber‑optic work and that the site will be used as a storage facility for equipment and materials rather than as a tow company as originally proposed. “This will be a storage facility for both equipment and, materials,” Shagley said.
Area Planning provided a favorable staff report with no opposition, councilmembers observed the surrounding area is already mixed‑use and industrial, and the ordinance was amended on the floor and then approved by voice vote.
What happens next: Because the council approved the amended special ordinance, zoning maps and staff records will be updated to reflect the parcel reclassification.
