Senator Tina Arwol, sponsor of Senate Bill 5652, told the Environment, Energy and Technology Committee the measure is designed to address long‑standing health and environmental harms in communities near large airport operations. “There’s ultrafine particles that are related to JET A fuel and they pass the blood‑brain barrier and they cause inflammation in the human body,” Arwol said, citing prior University of Washington and King County Department of Public Health work that links proximity to SeaTac with higher rates of asthma and shorter life expectancy.
