Bill would let interpreters bargain over pay for missed or canceled appointments
HB 2190 would clarify that payments for missed or canceled appointments are part of economic compensation language access providers may bargain for; interpreters testified they often travel long distances and lose earnings when appointments are canceled.

House Bill 2190 returned to the committee on Jan. 14 with a staff briefing and testimony from interpreters, unions and advocates. The bill would explicitly include payments for missed or canceled appointments in the economic compensation subject to collective bargaining for language access providers — independent contractors who interpret for agencies such as DSHS, DCYF, L&I and the Health Care Authority.
