Weber School District previews Elevate '28 dashboard, aims for December public rollout

Weber School District officials demonstrated a new interactive dashboard Tuesday designed to show progress on the district's Elevate '28 strategic plan and provide school- and district-level comparisons.
Superintendent Butters told the board he is encouraged by improvements districtwide since the plan launched last October and introduced a dashboard initiative intended to bring Data Gateway metrics into a district-customized Tableau environment. "We're focused on four main areas ... academic excellence, safe and healthy schools, community engagement and talent engagement," Butters said, adding the dashboard will help leaders see progress and celebrate "glimmers" of success.
Brian Beckerini and data analyst Dallin Wilson showed a working prototype built in Tableau that will let users switch between district- and school-level views, filter by year and drill into specific goals. "If you hover over any of those goals, you'll be able to see the specifics," Wilson said during the demo. The tool will include color-coded status indicators, resource links and the ability to compare a school to district peers.
Board members asked whether the public would be able to see peer-school names and state comparisons. Presenters confirmed a public-facing dashboard will be available, but cautioned that N-size protections and personally identifiable information must be handled carefully; administrators and teachers will have deeper access under purchased user licenses. The presenters estimated a full rollout by December, with teacher dashboards and focus groups to come.
District officials said the dashboard is designed to save staff time and produce longitudinal cohort views that Data Gateway alone does not provide. The district plans additional goal-definition work with directors over the next month to clarify some measures and ensure consistent data collection.
Next steps: finalize metrics with directors, complete focus-group testing with school leaders and aim for a December public dashboard release with restricted administrator/teacher access for deeper views.
