Neosho County commissioners on Oct. 1 handled a batch of administrative decisions including facilities work, emergency-services technology and short-term budget allocations.
Elevator modernization and contract signature
Commissioners approved a modernization proposal from TKE for the courthouse elevator in the amount of $66,097.68 and agreed to take the funds from Courthouse General. After approving the modernization, commissioners also authorized Commissioner David to sign the contract acceptance page on the county’s behalf.
eDispatch paging system approved using 9-1-1 tax
Emergency‑services staff described inconsistent paging systems across multiple volunteer fire departments and proposed a county‑run eDispatch paging system covering Saint Paul, Galesburg, Erie and others. The presenter said a 100‑user package would cost roughly $2,412 per year and that the county liaison confirmed the 9-1-1 tax may fund the purchase. Commissioners voted to pursue the eDispatch system using 9-1-1 tax funds and discussed potential partner contributions and dispatch administration.
Legal invoices and department counsel access
The commission discussed how to handle invoices for county counsel services and related contractors. After debate about which fund should pay counsel invoices and concerns about visibility of billed items, commissioners moved to pay the last three months of the county counsel Brett's invoices from the commission’s contractual fund; the motion was approved. Commissioners instructed staff to review invoices and provide clearer itemizations going forward.
Meeting schedule and other business
Commissioners voted to change regular meetings to a biweekly schedule, with the caveat that special meetings can be called as needed. Other items included signing overlay contracts for Grady Road and 205th Road, discussion of the North River bridge closure and mussel shell removal, striping estimates for county roads (roughly $900 per mile for fog lines), and recognition of the imminent retirement of county employee Mitch Ramey.
What happens next: Staff will finalize the TKE contract signature, proceed with procurement/implementation planning for eDispatch, provide invoice itemizations as requested, and schedule the next (biweekly) meeting.
