Town discusses PFAS testing, broken hydrant and other water/electric maintenance

Meadow staff and residents raised multiple maintenance and utility issues during the meeting, including PFAS testing, a broken fire hydrant, private wiring concerns, and contractor sourcing for repairs.

PFAS testing: Speaker 3 said the town applied to the state for assistance with PFAS testing that must be in place by 2027; testing should start in early 2026 pending state funding and results. "At this point, we just need to wait and get results back from them if we can get that funding assistance," Speaker 3 said.

Fire hydrant: Speakers described a hydrant that had been tipped over and appeared stuck in a closed position. Speaker 4 noted they inspected the hydrant and believed it needed replacement or servicing; Speaker 2 clarified that while the fire protection district funds equipment and training, the town owns the hydrants and is responsible for maintenance.

Private electrical service: Speaker 1 reported old, out‑of‑code wiring on his house that runs to the meter and asked the town to arrange an inspection; Speaker 2 asked staff to follow up and an address was given for inspection (375 East 100 South).

Center Street repairs and vendors: Speaker 4 said the town found another excavation vendor to reduce dependency on one contractor and planned to proceed with repairs once the vendor is scheduled. The council indicated staff will follow up on scheduling and blue‑stake markings before work begins.

Next steps: Staff will await PFAS funding decisions, process the follow‑up inspection requests for private wiring, schedule hydrant repair or replacement assessment, and coordinate vendor work for street repairs.
