Kane County’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted June 11 to recommend ordinance 2025-19, which updates local subdivision regulations to match revised state code and local administrative responsibilities. The ordinance removes an older 66‑foot public‑easement requirement for rural improved splits (10‑acre rural splits) and adopts a 50‑foot standard deemed sufficient by staff and the county’s fire‑interface guidance.
Staff explained the change results from the administrator now serving as the land‑use authority and from recent state code updates that revised thresholds for minor‑lot subdivisions (reducing previous contiguous‑acre thresholds). The proposal also removes verbatim state‑code text from the county ordinance and defers to state code where appropriate.
Commissioners discussed long‑term implications of a 50‑foot easement standard and the proper balance between state direction and local discretion. After limited discussion the commission moved and seconded a recommendation of approval; the motion carried.
