On Jan. 21 Huntington’s City Council approved proposed updates to city code: revisions to Section 9-8 and a definition update to Section 9-2. Planning and zoning staff explained the changes, noting most edits were minor and not more restrictive; the only new definition added to 9-2 was 'development activity,' which staff said was taken from state law.
Staff told the council the city attorney reviewed the revisions and that planning and zoning held a public hearing before forwarding the items to the council. Council members asked clarifying questions about whether the updates add substantive requirements; staff said the language primarily clarifies references to state code and does not supersede the city’s existing zoning and subdivision regulations.
Council members made and seconded motions to approve both the 9-8 and 9-2 updates and voted to adopt them by voice vote.
The council recorded acceptance of the updates and will incorporate the revised language into the city code. No implementation timeline or fiscal impact was discussed on the record.
