Duchesne County Library schedules April open house, accepts community donations

The Duchesne County Library Board on Feb. 18 recognized several community contributions, set plans for a Duchesne branch open house in April and approved the November minutes as amended.

Jessica Shaw, a board member who opened the meeting, announced donations including $1,000 from API Uinta Basin, $2,500 from Uinta Basin Healthcare, $250 from Kings Peak Credit Union and a $2,500 waiver from the Uinta Basin Association of Governments for outreach drop-box pickup. "We accept all donations. It all helps," Shaw said when members discussed outreach and solicitation practices.

Board members discussed how to acknowledge in-kind or collectible donations. The board noted a recent large gift of donated autographed items staff estimated could be worth about $4,000 in market value; staff said the library typically provides a receipt listing donated items and leaves valuation to the donor for tax purposes.

Members also planned a modest public open house to mark the Duchesne branch reopening. The board favored scheduling the event on Saturday, April 12 to avoid Easter and spring break, and discussed refreshments, local vendors and inviting the radio for promotion. The board agreed an open-house format rather than a formal ribbon-cutting would likely fit the site and community.

On routine business, the board reviewed circulation statistics and the consent agenda. A motion to approve the November minutes as amended passed unanimously. Staff reported that interviews for a supervisory position are scheduled to begin March 10, with a possible announcement by the March 18 meeting.

The board set its next meeting for March 18 at Roosevelt Library and adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
