Jefferson County supervisors approve 2025 contract rock bid documents

The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors approved the county's 2025 contract rock bid documents during its Feb. 10 meeting, moving forward with procurement intended to supply local road crews and seven maintenance districts.

County Engineer (unidentified) told supervisors the request-for-quotation package is for 35,000 tons of aggregate, split to provide about 5,000 tons per district. "We shoot for 250 tons a mile so that equates to about a 140 miles of road," the engineer said. He said the county will evaluate pricing and add quantities if budgets allow.

The board asked about competition and hauling costs; the engineer said the county's local options have narrowed and noted haul distance and trucking capacity are major drivers of total cost. He described local bidders by name in the meeting packet and said the county would compare offers from nearby suppliers and trucking contractors before awarding work.

A motion to approve the 2025 primary rock plans and bid documents passed by voice vote with all supervisors saying "aye." The approval authorizes staff to post the solicitation, accept bids, and return to the board for contract awards. The action does not commit the county to purchases beyond the bid authorization.

The supply is intended for routine roadwork across all county districts. The engineer said the bid sizing and distribution were chosen to give supervisors and road foremen flexibility to allocate material by district once prices are known.
