Committee approves $189,305 purchase of CCTV cameras for Aurora animal control facility

Aurora’s Finance Committee on Aug. 29 approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of CCTV devices and related equipment for the city’s animal control facility at a cost of $189,305.25.
Cameron Devore, the animal control manager, told the committee cameras are needed to protect animals, document abandonment and help staff and police respond quickly to incidents. He said the facility stores controlled substances used in animal care and that cameras will help investigate missing medications. Chief Management Officer Alex Alexander added the procurement aligns CCTV standards across city facilities and noted the police will have access to feeds to speed response.
Committee members discussed how footage would be monitored and how the city would work with the police department to pursue citations for abandonment. A motion to authorize the purchase passed 5–0.
