Council removes select energy‑code provisions from town building code

Council reviewed a proposed ordinance to amend portions of the Town Code that staff identified as energy‑code provisions adopted during the 2018→2024 code update. Staff explained the provisions at issue related to required energy‑monitoring systems and renewable‑energy sections that staff and several other Valley jurisdictions have deleted from their adoptions.
John said staff does not view those sections as necessary to protect public health, safety and welfare. Council member Watts asked whether related requirements (indoor air quality, ventilation) are handled elsewhere; staff confirmed mechanical and ventilation standards remain in the mechanical code.
On a motion and second, council adopted the ordinance to remove the listed energy provisions from the building code by roll call (7–0). Town staff will proceed with code updates and administrative changes to align the adopted code books.
