Aurora council approves appointments, infrastructure contract and two settlements

The Aurora City Council approved a slate of administrative and contract actions during its Jan. 27 meeting, including appointments to the Public Art Commission, an infrastructure contract award and two settlement authorizations.
The clerk read Resolution 206‑1 to reappoint Ginger Ingram and appoint Javier Terrazas, Jahari/Jaharie Thompson and Brian Joseph to the Aurora Public Art Commission. The motion, moved by Alderman Garza and seconded by Alderman Smith, passed by unanimous roll call (12–0). Newly appointed members stepped forward for a photo following the vote.
Under new business the council awarded the 36‑inch Southeast Transmission Repair Project (Ward 1) to Vortex Infrastructure Services in a contract amount of $558,470. The motion, moved by Alderman Franco and seconded by Alderman Garza, passed by roll call vote (12–0).
The council also authorized two settlement actions. The workers' compensation settlement in claim 23Q051562322 was approved by roll call (12–0). Separately, corporation counsel was authorized to complete a settlement in City of Aurora v. Fox Valley Iron and Metal LLC, case no. 20CV0533; the roll call was 10 yes, 0 no and 2 abstentions (Alderman Smith and Alderman Bade), and the item was approved.
Other consent items approved included grant acceptances — an Illinois Attorney General Organized Retail Crime grant for $24,000 and an Illinois Department of Transportation safety grant for $17,736 — a conditional use permit for an emergency warming shelter at 712 S. River Street, engineering supplements and multiple transportation appropriations, and routine software license renewals and intergovernmental agreements. The clerk recorded the consent agenda as passing 12–0.
Motions for approval of bills and adjournment were moved and seconded near the meeting's close; the council adjourned at 6:39 p.m.
