State committee advances resolution urging federal immigration processing reforms

The State Local Government Committee voted Feb. 4 to move House Joint Resolution 180, as amended, to calendar and rules. Sponsor Rep. Reeves said the resolution urges the federal government to reduce delays, lower fees and cut bureaucratic red tape while maintaining security.

Representative Reeves introduced House Joint Resolution 180 and asked the committee to place amendment 5595 on the resolution. "This resolution simply, recognizes that The United States is always welcomed and is indeed a nation of lawful immigrants, but it requires newcomers to contribute by respecting our laws and embracing American values," Reeves said, urging federal action to reduce processing delays and fees while keeping security measures.
