Planning staff will change recommendation language to focus on zoning-code alignment

Planning staff alerted the commission at the start of the meeting that, per city-attorney recommendation, the department will alter how staff recommendations are phrased in future agenda reports. Rather than presenting a binary 'staff recommends approval/denial,' staff will advise commissioners whether an application aligns with the zoning code. Planner Lauren explained the change was procedural and aimed at clarity for commissioners.
Commissioners acknowledged the shift and thanked staff for transparency. "We appreciate the continued transparency from the Department of Planning," one commissioner said.
The commission proceeded to public hearings with that approach in mind.
