Chief Deputy Dusty Rhodes unanimously elected interim Williamson County sheriff

The Williamson County Board of Commissioners elected Chief Deputy Robert "Dusty" Rhodes as interim sheriff during its March session after hearing brief introductions from four candidates.

Chairman outlined the selection procedure and counsel explained that one nominee lacked a required post-commission certification and therefore was ineligible for appointment that night (Tennessee Code Annotated reference read into the record) (SEG 1691–SEG 1706). Candidates Kevin Carroll, Dwayne Duhan, Mark Mittermeier and Dusty Rhodes each addressed the commission to introduce themselves and summarize qualifications (SEG 1741–SEG 1807).

Following an alphabetical roll-call ballot, Chief Deputy Dusty Rhodes received unanimous support in the recorded vote and was declared elected by the commission (SEG 1855–SEG 1911). Rhodes told commissioners, "I promise you I won't let you down," and said he would continue current operations "and do the best job we can for each and every one of you" (SEG 1916–SEG 1922).

What happens next: Counsel and commissioners said Rhodes will be sworn in (counsel noted the swearing-in may occur immediately and he will serve until formally sworn) and he will present his department budget the following day (SEG 1932–SEG 1962).
