Vinita City Council approves $20,000 rescue-gear purchase funded by Crescent donation

The Vinita City Council on Feb. 3 approved using a previously accepted Crescent family donation of up to $20,000 to purchase rescue gear, including replacement ropes and equipment for the county rescue task force and the Vineyard Fire Department.
Council members were reminded that the council had previously accepted the $20,000 donation for use by the task force. Acting in the absence of the fire department’s usual representative, council members discussed the item briefly and moved to approve the purchase. “That was to go to purchase for the…task force,” the chair said when introducing the item.
Councilmember Young moved to approve the expenditure and Councilmember Briley seconded. The council approved the measure by voice vote; the chair announced the item was approved.
The city clerk and staff noted the purchase is expected to be close to the $20,000 limit and that additional smaller donations may offset any overage. The motion covered purchases to replace expired ropes and to buy new, updated rescue gear for the task force.
