Director highlights programs, wireless printing and space changes

During the board's Jan. 26 meeting the library director reported on current programs, service changes and facilities work underway.
The director said Silicon Valley Reads recently kicked off with well-attended events and noted a teen-author session that drew "over 60, 70 teens," which staff described as very positive for engagement. The director also said the library has introduced wireless printing that "you can now print from your laptop," and that staff will help patrons load payment/accounts at the front desk.
Staff are preparing for free tax-preparation services and have expanded baby story-time offerings because demand is high; the librarian Alex is attempting to add a Friday session to keep families from being turned away. The director described efforts to free up seating by removing two rows of shelving on the upper floor, replacing carpeting beneath the removed shelving and installing new tables; delivery is expected around mid-March.
The director explained a backlog and then a surge of deliveries from vendor Ingram around the holidays and said the library has used temporary staff help to get new items processed and on the floor. Trustees asked clarifying questions about printing and carpeting. No formal board action was required on these program and facilities updates.
