The Star City Council on Dec. 2 authorized a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) and contract signature for the new events center, after bid results exceeded the original budget.
Staff told the council the project was originally budgeted at $4,500,000. After the bid opening, the total came in about $4,600,000 including a roughly $191,000 contingency; staff asked the council to authorize an increase to the guaranteed maximum price of $4,630,005.44 and to authorize the mayor to sign the contract. One council member noted the price was higher than originally budgeted but said the bids reflected current market conditions.
A council member moved to approve the GMP and authorize the mayor to sign the contract; the motion was seconded and passed by unanimous roll-call vote. Staff said construction would start Monday, Dec. 8, with an anticipated opening date of Oct. 1 (year not specified in the item).
