Sandusky Tree Commission reports 44 trees planted this spring, schedules maintenance

City staff told the Sandusky Tree Commission on May 20 that crews have two trees left to plant for the spring season and reported a total of 44 trees planted so far.
Staff (Speaker 3) detailed planting locations: seven oak trees on East Washington, additional oaks on Central Avenue and West Jefferson, and eight bald cypress on Lane Avenue, plus a number of single or paired plantings on Erie Boulevard. After finishing spring plantings, staff said crews will shift to removals, limb-ups for signage and visibility, sidewalk and street clearance and a planned stump-grinding operation next week.
Commissioners praised the recent Arbor Day program at the library, noting dignitaries attended and complimenting the on-site tree demonstration. Speaker 1 specifically praised the demonstration team: "Nate and his crew always does a really good job with the tree demonstration." Staff confirmed outreach steps such as door tags and direct contact before planting in front of residences.
Staff also noted the "Touch a Truck" community event planned for Aug. 5 and said further details and staging maps would be circulated before the event. The meeting adjourned after routine announcements and scheduling notes.
