Menifee updates: skate‑park ranger station, 14 CIP projects and midyear park budget adjustments

Hall also listed projects moving into construction in late February and March: temporary locker rooms behind Fire Station 7 for parks staff, roof rehabilitation at the KC Center (one-week estimate), park signage deliveries (first shipment arrived), La Ladera Park field additions, Banner Village playground nearing final design, lighting designs at Hidden Hills and E.L.P. Peterson, a turf‑conversion program to remove non‑functional turf in rights of way and replace with drought‑tolerant landscaping, and ongoing design work for Quail Valley Park and the Central Park amphitheatre (structural beams expected to arrive in May).
Community Services Director Miss Mitchell summarized midyear budget approvals at a recent City Council workshop: additional operating funding was approved for Central Park turf replacement and the department moved $100,000 for arts-and-public-places standards into operating for consultant work. She also reported approval for updates to landscape design standards and additional resources to support a LAFCO application related to the Menifee Parks landscape maintenance district. Mitchell said part‑time salary adjustments were approved to keep entry and classification pay competitive (transcript reports a new $16.90 starting rate for part‑time roles).
What happens next: several CIP items will go to City Council for construction authorization; staff said they have applied for a matching grant for Sun City Park (target amount $1,500,000 with a $750,000 local match estimated from design engineers) and expect a notification from the California Natural Resources Agency in February or March. Staff will return to the commission with design presentations as projects reach milestones.
Public input and access: staff announced a public meeting on programming for the Audie Murphy skate park scheduled for Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Community Services Department North Annex; commissioners asked questions about timelines, grant contingencies and potential additional ranger staffing as projects increase.
