The Unified Police Department reported 204 calls for service in Brighton during July 2025, including property checks, traffic stops and welfare checks. Staff encouraged residents to report suspicious activity to help solve crimes and target patrols.
Battalion Chief Craig Ellickson told council the fire organization created a fourth battalion to reduce span-of-control and cover six stations in the new 14th battalion; he noted recent promotions and a recruit class that started Aug. 4.
Council members discussed a vendor proposal for noise-detection cameras priced at about £27,500 per unit (roughly $30,000). Councilor Tyler said the town should sort out prosecutorial acceptance before purchasing. "Before we even look at that, I think it'd be smart for us to decide, you know, if they're willing to prosecute," he said; staff reported they had contacted the prosecuting attorney in Holiday and were awaiting confirmation.
Councilors expressed support for tools to address loud vehicles and events but warned of expected pushback and the need to confirm legal and enforcement procedures before deploying technology.
